How many trees are too many in front of the house?
I bought a 30yo house, and it has more trees planted right in front of the front walls and windows, than any of my neighbors have. From the street you might miss that there is an actual house there.

This picture doesn't even show the tree at the right side of the house, and the 2 huge oaks closer to the road.

Well since I live in a wilderness/urban transition zone in the west- I don't like fryable trees closer than 30ft to my house. Or shrubs.

However back in WV- I loved having shade trees on the S-SW side of the house- it kept it cooler.

What do you like?

To me, it looks much too busy and cluttered with all the trees. I like the bottom picture the best.

I agree. Planting are supposed to enhance the beauty of a home not overshadow it.

You could start by taking out the one in front of the left hand window.

Of course, how vulnerable are you to hurricanes? That would make a difference as well- and maybe make both smaller trees gone. I'd leave the rest however.

I like the trees there. There are so many variables as to how many trees look good in my opinion. 1 is good in the house I'm in now. One I lived in in the past had 18 pines out front on a flat sprawling yard and in that neighborhood, it looked good. I moved 2 yrs ago out of a Nat'l forest so.. there really was no yard, it was all woods. I personally do not like to see any sizable yard with no trees, it's too sterile for me.
I say you go with what YOU like. You're the one living in it and tending to it.

There are hurricanes in my area, so trees being too close to the house might be an issue. It might also matter whether the trees are taller than the house or not, they can catch more wind and break more easily?

On my front yard I have these:
2 sides near road: huge 30 year old oak trees.
left side, a bunch of closely planted palm trees, maybe a half dozen.
The 2 willows in front of each willow.
2 Ligustrum Trees, the 2 corners of the garage (right side, side entry garage).
2 new foxtail palms in the center circle
That is 14 trees in the front yard.

DH and I took out 16 trees on our property ourselves some 30 feet. We had 4 professional removed as two were Curley Willows and too close to the house. The other two were 35 foot maples. The former owner never met a tree he didn't like.

Trees too close to your foundation can cause problems, too. I'd remove any trees within about six feet.
