Original the sprinkler was set to come on M,W,F at 6:30am. We changed it to come on same days but at 7:30am.
For some unknow reason we started hearing water hammer about an hour or so before the start of the sprinkler.
On Wed at 6:12am water hammer, on Friday at 6:09am water hammer. The sprinkler came on Monday 7:30 zone 1 watered and finished when closing and Zone 2 starting we heard water hammer.
Today I took out one sprinkler head that was in the zone causing water hammer. I made sure the hose was pointing to the lawn and not stay in the hole as I didn't want the soil to get inside the hole.
I then turned the sprinkler on. The water was shooting across the lawn for a min or so then the water hammer came and the water was shooting straight up in the air high.
Water Hammer is an extreme pressure change in the water-carrying pipes, typically caused when valves suddenly open or close. You can hire a professional to find out why, or you can research how to troubleshoot sprinkler systems, and maybe try to investigate the problem yourself, if you are somebody with a technical background.
I got interested in water hammer problems, causes, and fixes when I lived in a very old apartment building that had water hammer issues. It was so bad that the pipes sometimes seemed like they were going to rip themselves out of the apartment wall. I later moved into a home that had a sprinkler system installed by the previous owners. It also had water hammer issues. I deactivated it when I realized that it cost me hundreds of extra dollars a month in water charges whenever I turned it on.

What is going on here???
It’s really tough to diagnose the issue, I’d spend the money on a plumber if it’s bad.
All the plumbers charge me to come diagnose and then tell me oh we cant figure out the issue. Drive to the place collect the money and leave good grief ;-(
