Located in Socal and I have 3 queen palms. Just noticed today that one of the palm trees has brown leaves / fronds. I asked my gardener about it and he didn't seem too concerned. Said it was normal for the cold winter season. I asked him why only one palm tree has leaves turning brown and he said maybe it was the only palm affected by the weather. He wasn't dismissive in his response, it was more of a matter of fact type response. I don't know enough to push back so I just said ok.

I checked the trunk of the palm and didn't notice any unusual growths or brown/rotting. The trunk looks pretty normal compared to the other 2 palms besides it.

So do I have a sick palm tree or is this seasonal changing ?

Thanks!

It only has one new, still furled branch on it that looks like it might be green and healthy but it's hard to tell if it's okay from the distance you took the pictures from.

Frankly the tree looks really bad to me and I think it is dying but I don't know much of anything about palm trees.

Maybe you could take some more closer up pictures of it and show them to somebody in a local nursery where those kinds of trees are sold and get their opinions.

Each year Queen Palms grow upward, they grow 1 or a few new leaves at the top, & loose 1 or a few leaves, below. It doesn't replace all the leaves every year, though.

I would tend to agree with your gardener. Possibly one tree provided a bit of shelter from cold wind to the other trees.

My queen palms have put about about 3-4 spears over summer and the fastest growing one has the most browning of the older fronds, which is due to the faster growth rate imo.
