..as Miborn suggested,talk to a local qualified nurseryman first...because if what you are seeing is in both "wild" trees as well as those on your property,and around your neighborhood is possibly sudden oak death..they'le need to know..
i looked up some other possible diseases like oak root fungus but this disease usually only effects isolated trees. your situation sounds alot more widespread...either way..its something to be concerned about..

Here is a pic of what the trees are starting to look like if anyone is interested. I am going to go to either a nursery tomorrow or contact an arborist.

Try looking up the Master Gardener group in your area (google master gardener and it should give you the website). This is a free service to the community and they could tell you what is going on.

I talked to someone that knows a lot about oaks and he said that is from the lack of water. I've since started watering the oaks on my property, but the poor oaks on the neighboring empty lots...I can't afford to water them all!
