About cannas (landscape, growing, palms, Ferns)

Just wondering how many people know about cannas, that can help me without a photo. It is a gorgeous, huge, orange color, about 3 to 4 ft. tall, with very large bronze/maroon leaves. Thanking you in advance,

Tropicana, possibly.. a great plant for slightly moist, warm but partly shaded areas of the garden..generally a perennial which dies down to the underground tubers in winter..is typically considered an annual in colder areas, but can survive winter exposure if heavily mulched in marginal areas..

There is also a yellow/green leaved variety of the Tropicana variety..as well as many lower growing types..all of which present great summer color/foliage effects..especially in a tropical-themed garden setting...

A neighbor lady gave me some red cannas one time many years ago and they were dug up. It was fall or early winter if I can remember. Maybe late winter. Don't they have bulbs? Anyway I didn't know what to do with them as I am a lousy gardener, so I left them behind a shed in a house we moved out of a few months later. I really regret not having planted or taken them with me as I think they must be beautiful.

Cannas, along with Dahlias, which were being discussed in another thread here, and the Butterfly gingers (for warmer areas) are top amongst outstanding summer/fall flowering/foliage accent plants for those out of the way niches of the garden especially for anyone looking to add an exotic look to their landscapes..especially when planted beneath palms or even a grouping of tree ferns..or with large leaved Phillidendrons or Aroid-type plants..

There is a yard not too far up the street where several clumps of cannas were left to their own and create a nice display around now..have to take a look and see if they are flowering yet..

There is also a nearby shopping center where they grow fully exposed to the sun and perhaps on less water then id think Cannas would prefer..but they still look great..
