Vigoro grass seed (lawn, spring, summer, shade)

Do not buy Vigoro grass seed. I bought the Sun and Shade mix in the spring to repair some patches on my lawn. It did fine for the first month or two but the grass was not able to survive the summer, even with regular watering. It's all dead, both shady and sunny spots. Next time I'll spend the extra few bucks and buy Scotts.

Don't ever just go by the brand name. Read the package and see what type of seed you are buying. If I had to guess, you bought annual rye grass seed. Do a little research and buy the specific grass type that is best for your area.

I would say ditto on the "annual." I don't even know what the point is of selling "annual" grass seed, but I've bought it by accident myself.

Annual seed works well for bermuda lawns, when the owner wants to keep the lawn green in the winter. Otherwise the bermuda lawn will be brown all winter.

We used annual once in the winter here in Houston. Its best quality is that it will germinate at cool tempertures. I needed to cover a muddy area at a new house until spring. Worked like a charm & helped to give the new sod we put in that spring a headstart too! It comes down to "know what you are sowing"
