I read these tests are a scam or unreliable. What's your opinion on AA?

Are they a waste of money and time?

If you mean the ones that try to identify the region of African origin, there are problems with accuracy.

One company's test will say one thing while another company's test will give a different result.

I've used African Ancestry - Home: Trace Your DNA. Find Your Roots. Today. and they are very reputable. Ancestry.com referred me to this company and they are also used by the producers of the show, "Who Do You Think You Are?"

You have to be in a particular Haplogroup in order for them to trace your ancestry back to an African village. You should give them a call to find our more info.
