Living long enough to see your 4xgr. grandkids. (find, world, grandmother)

I just read an obit of a 96 yr. old woman who passed the other day who had listed as survivors the following:
5 children, (whoops-two were deceased)
15 grand kids
9 great grand kids
19 gr. gr. grand kids
9 gr. gr. gr.grandkids
4 gr. gr gr. gr. grandkids
That's a long stretch. Do you know of anyone who's lived long enough to see this in their family?? Just curious.

Yup. I guess now thinking about it, it is possible if you start early enough and live to a ripe old age of 96.
What an interesting life she must have had to see so many descendants....

Having taught in a city school district, I saw many grandparents in their 30s: they had grand-kids in grade school ( like age 6), kids who were in their 20s ( like 24) and many were grandparents in late 30s; their parents ( the great-grandparents) were in their early 50s and great-greats were in their 70s. Who knows how many more lived on?

Cripe, I had my kids at 28 and 31 and we still don't have grand-kids.... and we are in our 60s. Would I want my kids just "to reproduce"... no way. You have to want to and do it in a good family environment

My great grandmother was born in 1900 and was married at the age of 13!

My great grandmother in the 1980's had
2 children (1deceased)
6 grandchildren
20 great grandchildren (1 deceased)
10+ great greats
and I believe at least 2 great great greats before she passed, although I lost track of most of the great greats so I'm not sure about the numbers.


I have a wonderful stairstep photo of my great grandmother, grandma, mom, me, and my baby daughter posed youngest to oldest. I treasure it.

That's what I was thinking, back in the day a lot of girls married young. Having that stairstep photo is a treasure indeed. I've always wished that I could've gotten a photo of my Mom with me and my daughter and her kids. But, there were too many miles in between at the time. Now it's too late.

When I was a kid, there was a girl in my neighborhood who had a child when she was 13. Obviously that's a far outlier, but assuming her offspring followed in her proud traditions, she could be a grandmother at 26, great grandmother at 39, great great at 52, great great great at 65, great great great great at 78, and well, you get the point...

Just turned 80 last month. Have a Great Grandson who is now 7 and in front of me a picture of me holding my Great grandaughter who turned 4 months old yesterday. Hope I'm around a little longer so she can learn to know and remember me as her Great Grandpa. (not that great of a person...you know what I mean)

While that's possible, I don't really find it plausible, unless somewhere along the line someone married someone much older who already had kids and they don't make the distinction between step gr. kids etc. Figure if everyone in the family has kids at 16. She is 96, her kids are 80, her gr. kids are 64, her gr. grandkids are 48, her gr. gr. grandkids are 32, her gr. gr. gr. grandkids are 16 and they have a infant (her gr. gr. gr. gr. grandkids).

That being said, I met my gr. gr grandmother and I'm lucky enough to be a part of a 5 generation picture. My great grandpa didn't pass away until I was in high school. But even that took a combo of good genes and people have babies pretty early in life.
