My mother is mostly Scottish, Welsh, English, with a small bit of German (think 1/8-1/4 at most). My father was adopted so I don't know his ancestry, though I recently found a 4th cousin in Ukraine (Crimea). I know the logical thing to do would be to have my father tested but unfortunately that is not possible.
Sorry for the edit: One thing I've noticed frequently while using oracle with GEDmatch is the combination of my mothers ancestry +Romanian/other Balkan people. Our city has a HUGE Balkan population (I'm talking Romanian churches, Serbian churches, Bosnian Mosques) would I be crazy to sway my search in that general direction?
Did you try the Oracle? It will give you a list of countries you are closely matched with. It also gives a combination of different countries that your dna is a good fit for.
Yeah, I was also able to find a few surnames and a relative contacted me. It seems many of my ancestors come from Crimea and a couple from Armenia. Guess I was looking in the wrong direction, lol.
