On an apartment application it is asking for my last residence. Well, I've been living with my Dad for five years rent free.

Should I use my Dad as my last residence? Should I lie and say I was paying rent?

I have a family friend who rents out rooms in her house. She said I could put her down as a landlord and say I rented a room from her.

Is there any way for a potential landlord to find out you lied on an application about this sort of thing?

Don't lie, they will rent to you, just tell them it will be your first rental unit with your name on the lease, end of story. No need to lie.

Don't lie.

You need income (rent should be the most 30% of your income).
A decent/good credit score.

you should tell them this is the first time you have rented on your own and explain that you have been living with your Dad . they can appreciate the fact that a lot of our country is still living with their parents because of the economy don't lie just tell them and you should be fine .
