I was wondering if it's possible to hire movers to meet us at like the last part of the journey. We're able to move the furniture, boxes, etc. out of my home. I'm moving into my first place and my father's pretty diligent (he's picked up my sectional sofa and is storing it at home versus delivery, same with other furniture). I was just wanting to hire people to move furniture from the truck, to my third story apartment in a walk-up building. I opted for a vintage building with beautiful features, wood floors, radiator heating, etc. versus a modern cookie cutter complex. The drawback is that it's dinky vintage elevator isn't capable of holding furniture. I >don't< want to carry my heavy bedroom set, mattress, sectional, desks, bookshelves, etc. up 3 stories, haha. Is it possible to just hire movers for this (wanting to save costs).
We used the workers thru uhaul on our last move at both ends. It went pretty well - but they were a little rougher on my stuff than "professional" movers.
I hired someone to move things in my current house, down a flight and into the garage for storage while selling. I found him through a neighborhood online group. He is actually a professional mover with a big name national company but does his own work on the side, so he did a great job, and I'll be using him for my upcoming full move since I'm staying local.
As lae60 said, you will generally pay an hourly rate with a 2 or 3 hour minimum, but I found it was still very cost effective.
I've used Two Men and a Truck. You can hire their movers for just loading or unloading.
