I had a small internet business when I moved, so I had two laptops (one is a spare), a folding chair, and two TV tables with me. The first thing I did when I moved in was set up my "office" in an out of the way corner. I was fortunate that I was able to get the internet started on the day I moved in.
On that:
I've always had two land lines in this town. Over the years, the use of the second one has shifted, now it is a fax line. The phone man came in the day Operation WHIRLWIND concluded, went to work on the lines and found that the house ports were linked in series. He had to go to each port to activate line two.
Catch was ...... and still is that two rooms are so full of boxes the walls are blocked and we don't know where those ports are, so right now, the second line is not active. In my case, that just means if I have to send a fax, I link up through the voice land line temporarily.
But word to the wise: before you start moving boxes in, find your comm ports and declare them no box zones.
I found my debit card and one credit card wouldn't work for several days due to th address change.
Oh that's a good tip! I didn't think of that. I'll have to be sure to get some cash out before the move. It would suck terribly if I needed to get some take out or a bottle of wine the first night and couldn't.
I was just working on my move, setting up to get the internet/cable installed. I have a small 5x3 inch notebook. I write in here the new account numbers, appointments, any other info I will need to get things installed. I can keep this in my purse so none of this info is lost in a box when the technician shows up. I also have my shopping list in there of what I need to pick up before the move. Things like cupboard liner that I want to have on hand before I start unpacking. OK hope this helps someone. Can't wait til it's over!
I took a carton, put all the land line phones, answering machine and cords, splitters and spare phones in it and labeled it "phones" using a heavy marker. The problem was that this condo is quite different from that condo.
For us the bigger problem is remembering what we kept/moved and what we garage saled. Five months later we still have a bunch of boxes sitting around while we get the place the way we want it. Installing ceiling fans, replacing water faucets and electrical switches, and painting are only some of the jobs.
