We're considering having them stored and subletting a furnished apt until our house is ready. Would appreciate any feedback. It is definitely less expensive than using a traditional moving company. Thanks!
I moved from Jersey to Tennesee, and used ABF movers, very reasonable !The drivers were pleasant too.

I also used PODs when I moved from CT to PA. It was only about $800. They delivered it in my driveway and we pack it tight. On closing day of my old home in CT they came and haul it away. They held it till the closing on my home in PA (which was only 2 weeks) and delivered it there. It work out perfect cause if I had used a moving truck I would had to spend money on a moving truck twice (to put it in storage and to take it back out) and a storage unit. In my opinion I would use POD again.

Moving across country with pods can be expensive - no one has talked about insurance. To be safe you need to insure the pod and insure the contents (our home owners doesn't cover ) - the insurance for the contents and pods (we would need 3) plus the rental ends up being quite expensive - especially if you are moving and then looking for a home - the first month rental is free then you end up paying rent too...quite pricey actually....I believe I figured with insurance the cost would be close to $10,000.

Eh, personally I'd throw the dice and take the chance without insurance. You pack anything valuable first, so it's all the way to the back of the pod, and then make sure you block it in really well with other, heavy stuff. Long as you pack tightly, it's not going to move around and even if someone breaks into your pod I'll bet they're probably not going to want to move all the heavy stuff out of the way just to search the whole thing.

I'd never move without insurance! Our renter's insurance covered our move which was great, but stuff does happen, and esp. if you;re separated from your things!

I would never move without insurance either....and everything is valuable - to us anyway. If the pod gets damaged on your property then you pay for the damage (and maybe loss of use, I don't know)....just not worth the risk to go without insurance.

I used a POD on my last move which was only 15 miles. Although I had no problems, their PODs are not very large. Ended up filling an 8X20 storage unit to the bime with extra stuff and we only had a 1400 sqft home.
