For anyone that has made a long distance move, do you ever dream you're back at the old place and it's moving day and you forgot to pack? Or you already moved, but suddenly you're back at your old place because you forgot to finish something?

I keep dreaming that I'm back at my old place packing again and I already moved and started a job at my new place. And I've taken time off to go get the rest of my stuff. I'm trying to work everything out and get back to my new place and back to work but something keeps going wrong. I already moved and started a new job, but I'm stuck where I used to live. And I'm afraid I'm going to lose my job because I was gone too long.

I keep having this kind of dream. 2.5 years later.

That sounds dreadful. It's like you forgot to do something at your old place.

Yes, all the time. I just moved six months ago and I had a dream a few nights ago I was moving to another place where I have absolutely NO DESIRE to go. I also had no time off to make the move so I was going to drive over a weekend. I had a lot of drama to sell my old place and it just went through last month, so I think I’m still at the point where I’m adjusting to that phase of my life finally being over!

I've never dreamed this, even after moving across country 5 1/2 yearscago.

I think the stress of doing the move is used synbolically in your dreams. It represents your state of mind or your present concerns.

After a stressful event, our dreams can change. After my father died, I had some strange dreams for awhile.

Moving and upheaving everything you knew is stressful. I think you are dreaming about the stress of change and maybe mourning a few of the aspects you left behind. Its a way for your brain to sort out what's important and what can be shelved away and forgotten. Do you ever dream about missing classes in school? Forgetting to turn in important papers or exams? Dreaming that you are at work but unable to get something done correctly? Can't find your way to somewhere important? Same sort of thing.

I've moved around for jobs a lot but haven't dreamed about the moves themselves. Usually the moves were for good reasons, exciting and a thrill. I do dream about the jobs and other aspects of the life I had in various places. Especially situations that were not happy or comfortable. Those leave a deeper emotional mark on your memory.
