Like the movie its a wonderful life , we have always done this as well ... "Bread, that this house may never know hunger," they say. "Salt, that life may always have flavor. And wine, that joy and prosperity may reign forever." . And everytime we have moved we take those three things in first and say those words and it has calmed us about the move .

There's no such thing as luck.

Having said that: a horseshoe over the door. I think the open part faces down, but I'm not sure.

Placing a child's shoe under floorboards or in a wall cavity is a very old practice, pre Christian.

I'm sure there are many, many other superstitions. Are their older people from your own culture with whom you can talk?--That way, you are preserving traditions from your own people.

EG With the Irish there are all kinds of traditions around drinking.Eg Always leave a drop of beer in the bottom of the glass; for the leprechauns---When some one died, it was tradition to have the coffin with the deceased in the front room. The women would say the rosary all night. Before going to the Church, the men would come in and drink whiskey, with a glass of whiskey sitting at the head of the coffin.

The best bit of a funeral is always the wake. Everyone sits around telling flattering lies about the deceased. Then we all get pissed and fight. Rare these days due to our strict drink-drive laws. I always tried to leave before first blood.

I just have a pizza delivered for my first dinner in the new home, and eat there amid all the yet-to-be-unpacked boxes. Makes me happy and lucky, so that is a tradition that I invented for myself.

Interesting. I bet the borrowed cat was a bit disoriented.

I don't know if it's really a tradition, but usually people buy pizza for the friends who come to help them move.
Everybody likes pizzas

Friends that help them move? LOL OK! I think that would be a great tradition.

I bought some beer and soft drinks for the movers that I hired. Like me, my friends are all too old to be doing the heavy lifting.

Friends helping you move lol what is this college?! I’ve never helped anyone move and nobody has ever helped me move. That’s what moving companies are for, not friends. I’m not throwing out my back on your sectional couch

I think the best way to have good luck in a new house is make sure it is safe. Make sure the locks work, put in light bulbs if any are missing, make sure steps are secure and safe inside and out, and the garage empty enough to put your car in beginning with the first night. And check the dryer vents for lint.

LOL. We've always hired movers, too, but I've seen people move who use friends and relatives. I never understood it.
