We are moving from Santa Rosa (Ncal) area to Idaho this week. I have a storage unit 2 hours from home over winding roads. I had planned to go to unit, rent a 17' uhaul, load and drive it home, then the next day get the 26' penske, transfer contents from uhaul, load residence contents, and take off.
Would it make more sense to pick up penske, make the drive to storage, load, and drive back home to finish?
If the trucks get about the same gas mileage, it would make sense not to transfer the load (actually putting the stuff into the truck doesn't take a long time, it's more the securing it, especially if the truck is a lot less than full). Also, check with the storage place how tight of a fit it would be with the big truck--I've seen some places that you'd only be able to make it so far into the place.
Thank you for the good input. There is nowhere near the storage place to rent the 26' penske, so that wouldn't work, someone else mentioned that I would need to move the stuff around to properly pack it anyway so to just go ahead with the two truck scheme. I'll keep you posted on what we do and whether it worked out!
Sounds like yr way is the best option OP. You are gonna want to pack things a certain way so might as well go get storage stuff and then start from scratch with the 26' truck.
