I'll be watching for responses - I'm planning to make that trip in the not-too-distant future. My itinerary takes me west on I-10 from Jacksonville to CA (with a deviation here and there), but my trip back east will take a more northerly route. I hear tell that I-10 can be borrrriiiiinnnnngggg, but I want to experience that for myself (once :-)

I suppose parts of I-10 are boring. but I really like the Southwest and, IMHO, I-10 gets a lot more interesting once you head West from TX. (Actually, West TX isn't that bad, either.) One of the things I REALLY like about the Southwest is the AWESOME cloud formations. There are few better feelings than departing some place like Baltimore when it is snowing sideways and driving West on I-10 in the warmth of the Winter sun, looking at those beautiful clouds and just drinking in the warm sunshine!

One of my favorite stops is the dinosaur sculptures at Cabazon, CA (I-10 at the Verbenia Street exit; mile marker 111) The sculptures are LIFE-SIZE and looked a lot better before the ground below was landscaped and the restaurants were added. But it's still worth the stop!

Ctrlnick, the best route from San Diego to Dallas is I-8 to I-10 to I-20. I-8 is a rather long dgradual down grade as you approach San Diego. Best I can do is tell you that I slept in a truck sleeper and ate wherever they had 72' of parking...
