Would you consider Washington, D.C. the nation's and world's most powerful city? If so, what qualities make this true? If not, explain why.

Not by a long shot. New York is the most powerful (in the U.S. anyway) because of its influence over the economy.

definitely , no

I don't think any one city is the most powerful

But some of the top contenders would be London, New York City, Paris, and Moscow

I think the ability to wage war and deploy nuclear weapons (and yes, even mismanage the U.S./world economy) makes DC the most powerful city.

Washington D. C. is a different animal. new york can compare to London but neither can approach the American Capital. American forces drive the decision making in new york, not the other way around.

It was DC vs Moscow, not NYC/Los Angeles/Paris/London/Tokyo
