First for those who dont know metro areas and TV markets do not share the same boundries. TV markets are often larger and in some cases have two maybe three metro areas in the same market. Second, if you cant get corporate support for a franchise, thats often a kiss of death. Who do you think owns the luxury boxes and buys tickets in bulk?.

The largest TV market without an MLB team is Orlando, followed by Sacramento, Charlotte, Portland, Indianapolis, San Antonio, Columbus, Salt Lake City, Nashville in that order.

So to ask my question again; is the media market more important than the metro area or are they equally important? I thought I remembered reading that Louisville was considered for the Pacers, but the NBA picked Indianapolis because the market was so much larger.

And I don't think any of them will be getting an MLB team and that includes Vegas.

WH, both are equally important mainly because the if you are in a large metro than also means your in a large TV market (based on # of households).

As much as I hate to admit it, New York could support a third team better than any of those cities could support one. So could Los Angeles. The important thing would be location of a stadium.

Columbus is definitely a city that is well suited to receive pro team expansion ... either a baseball or football team.
The city already proves how supportive they are of the Ohio State Buckeyes, I don't feel it would be any different for a pro franchise.

Charlotte? If you're going to put one in NC, I'd sooner put it in RDU. There's a rich baseball history there and the area has been hugely supportive of the Hurricanes (NHL). Give 'em an outside sport!
