I don't know if this is something that is on the rise or just something we are more aware of due to the electronic age but this is becoming a serious issue.

It seems that it is not uncommon for police to use any little excuse to shoot people's dogs. What happens is the dog approaches the officer and the officer claims the dog was "attacking" and that they had to "defend themselves."

If you Google "cop shoots dog" or look for it on you tube, you will find a number of very disturbing accounts of this happening. Now, I can understand there may be instances where such a response is warranted. Say a female officer attacked by a rabid Rottwiler. But in most situations, a family pet is not a serious threat to most able bodied police officers.

Clearly, this officer was in no danger from this dog. There are more stories like this.

Or how about these 6 SWAT guys wearing full combat gear and carrying automatic rifles. What threat was a family pet to these storm troopers? I could see if there was a tiger in the house but a dog - come on.

In neither video can you tell what is really going on with the dogs involved. The first one you just cannot tell what the dog was sounding like or looking like. Could be justifiable, might no be. Second one they yelled enough that they were executing a search warrant for the person in the house to either open the door or control the dog. Instead you can hear the dog barking and growling as they entered the house. Did the owner "sic" the dog on them? You can't tell from the video, and you wouldn't be able to hear it if he did. Again it very well could have been justified.

Both videos lack enough information to say the shooting of the animals was needed or excessive.
