I dont notice it, but most of my neighbors in NJ claim that I have an accent of sorts. I tell them its more of a Bay Area accent than a California accent. LOL

Any time that we venture out to other states, countries, etc., no matter where we live (not just California) then it becomes US/WE who have the accent.
Yes, citizens of many states speak the same way but go a little farther in any direction and you will suddenly be noticed for your "accent."

California's accent stands out on the east coast. I can definitely tell if someone is from Cali. They all talk proper. Even the gangsters. That's not a slight either.

By and large, California always sounded more midwestern accented than anything else.

The Accent varies from North to South,
I am from SoCal so I don't notice it much but when I visit family in Philly I will get a cali accent remark. Then I tell them there accent sounds like Real Housewives of NJ, that usually shuts them up

People from east coast have told me that:
1. I over do my R's
2. I say dude to much(well obviously)
3. I say my vowels longer than usual(example is the word sad)
4. surfer accent, well we do but it is not extreme like Jeff Spicoli from Fast times

To me they do, but then again, to them I do. Most Californians I've met have more of a tendency for uptalk than I do and they merge 'caught' & 'cot' (which I do not), so therefore I can hear a difference in the way they speak, and, to me at least, it is noticeably different from the accent that is most common to the region of the country I live in (Great Lakes). Oh, and I still don't quite get the word 'hella'

hella

"dude, you'Re hella exhausting."
