What are the friendliest, warmest (not in terms of temperature), cities to live in in the US. I hear all the time that Minnesota is super friendly but living for two years I've found that it's more of a politeness than a niceness, which are two different things. I feel like my home city of Cleveland is a much warmer welcoming place, but that could just be because I'm from there. What are some other places you think of that are just friendly, happy places to live.

I would agree with Cleveland. A good deal of random people start up conversations with me while I'm there and seem genuine (I'm a native to the area and visit often). Certainly more friendly than Chicago where I now live. I don't especially think people in Cleveland go out of their way to be polite though, so I get the difference you are talking about. It's not like a "Minnesota nice" or "Southern hospitality" type thing.
I know what you all are saying and yes, I'd put Cleveland on that list. Also Buffalo. I'd say Pittsburgh and Scranton, from my visits, both seem to have that
'outgoing' attitude.
Amarillo, Texas. Both times that I have been there I have been impressed with how friendly the locals are, and how eager they seem to be to show kindness and helpfulness to an out of towner. Amarillo is the only city in Texas that I've ever been to, but if everyone in Texas is as nice as the people of Amarillo, I could definitely live in that state!
Oklahoma City. I moved here 4 years ago from Houston and I thought Texas cities were friendly but they are nothing like here. The people in OKC will go out of their way to be helpful and friendly. We were shocked when we first moved in because we had several different neighbors come by to welcome us and bring us meals. We have had neighbors in various cities in Texas do that as well, but never like we had here. People here will just start random conversations with you in stores. Even our teenage sons still comment on how friendly everyone here is.
I agree with Oklahoma City and the Texas panhandle. I was travelling through that area and stayed for a couple days but had similar experiences. For a single guy OKC had very attractive and friendly women too. Nashville, TN, Raleigh, NC, Portsmouth, NH, and POrtland, ME all seemed very friendly and polite.
New York. I've had long conversations with taxi drivers, and people wearing apparel affiliated with my university. Although some people can be rude, I think the media blows that stereotype out of proportion.
