I have found that many people associate a region with a particular ethnic group. For example, the south is often associated with African Americans due to its history, population, and the cultural hub of Atlanta for its black mobility in career and political power. Hispanics are mostly associated with regions like the southwest and southern California, and Miami. Hispanic communities in these places often fare better than in other places due to the network and immigrant communities. The same goes for Asians, from what I see their culture is pretty dominant on the west coast, mostly in the Bay area; Chinatown SF and Silicon Valley, Seattle, and some Korean communities in LA. While Chinese and Asians are dominant on the west coast and the tech industry, Jews seem to have the most influence on the east coast, mostly in NYC where the finance industry thrives.
This usually isn't talked about too often but I think a lot of us associate things like this.

I would also say Italians and Irish for the East Coast (more specifically Northeast), but yes.
I associate anything from Boston to Washington or The Northeastern States with Irish, Italians, Dominicans, West Indians, Puerto Ricans, Jewish, etc. The Midwest has Germans and Polish. The Southeastern States has non-ethnic whites and blacks, the exception being Florida which has the same things as the Northeastern States. The Southwestern States has Mexicans and Central Americans. I don't know what Northwestern States and the Great Plains States has.

That's where the Bos-Wash nonsense comes to an end. Starting with Philly...there may be Italians and Irish but Blacks are the Majority in Philly. Baltimore and DC known for Blacks not foreigners or European immigrants.
I do associate Mexicans with Texas and Cubans with Florida for obvious reasons. I associate New Orleans, Baltimore, Chicago, Memphis, and Atlanta with black and California with Asian. I do think the Northeast and California are the most "ethnic" areas, the Northeast with more different European ethnicities like Irish, Italian, Polish, etc while California has more recently arrived ethnicities. An interesting thing is Baltimore also has a surprisingly large Greek population which not many cities are known for and there is a lot of good Greek food there though a lot of the traditional Greek neighborhoods are now black and Mexican.
Here in West Virginia, within the state I associate the northern part of the state with Italians and that is probably the only part of WV with a strong "ethnic" identity. Most of the rest of the state is simply just "American" ancestry. Many people have Native American ancestry but just identify with "American". The Northeast has the most white people who are very into their ancestries compared to whites from other parts of the country.
I associate Alaska with Native Americans as there are many tribal villages across the state.

I think it's important to differentiate regions of states as well. Cubans are only in Miami and almost nonexistent outside of the city. Asians, particularly Chinese are dominate in the SF Bay area. While they have a presence in socal, LA is overwhelmingly Mexican. I actually associate the entire state of California more with Mexican than Asian. It is hard to pinpoint NYC due to its diversity, everyone is pretty evenly represented, but the Jewish influence there is larger than any other city.

Washington doesn't have large Irish, Italian and Puerto Rican populations.
.... You can tell I struggle to understand the ancestry of cities in the American South. I would be interested for some people to put more insight on these areas as I have a lack of ties there. I know Scotch, English, Irish ... however many maps claim mut and say "American."
