North Jersey. I mean, you know where you stand with people there. To me down-to-earth means being honest with people, not this southern nice to your face/talk about you behind your back b.s.
huh?
NJ residents are the opposite of down to earth, they tend to beleive they are gods chosen people, and they gossip and talk bad about ppl behind there backs too.
It seems people with trust issues or covert aggression tenancies believe all southerners are talking bad about them behind there backs or fake just because they are nice and friendly to there face.
As far as down to earth... It's gotta be small towns across every state.
I spent a few years in Canada (Manitoba), and one thing that really struck me about the people was how down-to-earth and real people there are. Maybe it's the cold winters or the less transient populace? It wasn't my choice to move back to Texas, but, just for the sake of CD discussion, what places do you feel are most like this in our own country? My GUESS would be maybe the upper midwest or northern New England.
I'd say San Antonio is pretty down to Earth. I like it here.
San Diego is definitely not down to Earth. It is superficial, just like the rest of California, especially southern California. So many shopping centers selling overpriced clothes don't exist in down to earth places.

That's all you get on City-Data is stereotypes. Just get use to it.
My vote goes for the Great Plaines states. Very laid back there, don't seem to care about much.
