For the most part this country's public transit sucks. The transit in Australia and Canada is so much better and more reliable. The only place in the states I've lived in that has good transit is san francisco. What other places here have good transit?

NYC, DC, SF, Chicago... Philly and LA aren't bad either.

NYC has arguably one of the best transit systems in the world, it really is on another level in the US. I read a statistic that more people ride the train in NYC than every other city in the US COMBINED!

The best I have ridden in the US are:

NYC

Chicago
DC

Boston
Philly

SF

If the only place in the U.S. you've experienced with good transit is San Francisco, then you need to travel more. New York City blows to smithereens any city transit in Australia or Canada.

I have to agree with everyone that the public transit in NYC is on another level then the rest of the US. However, Ive found GREAT public transit in San Fran, DC, and Boston. All these cities have great public transit options. I know there are alot more (Chicago comes to mind) but I havent ridden them so I cant say how good/bad they are.

Isn't the MTA the only system in North America that runs 24/7? I would have to say that it's the best system in the country. I've never used the Metro in DC, but have heard good things.

Chicago's is alright; although I've used it enough for it to get on my nerves more than a few times. Although this would be the case in any other city as well.

NYC is the best in the U.S. It is the farthest reaching and most efficient system.

It does need massive modernization, however. A majority of the NYC metro is generations old.
