Also, I believe the Census Bureau treats Arlington as a city.

Jersey city is not a suburb..it is a CITY......period. it has its own metro, albeit small one but it still does have its own. is having a metro not a characteristic of being a city?

Bellevue. Jersey City > Bellevue by skyline, but IMO JC isn't a suburb while Bellevue is..

Maybe, but the Commonwealth of Virginia does not.

One could say Jersey City is a suburb of Newark.

Pretty tough not to pick Bellevue. IMO, it is definitely a suburb and it has a better skyline than many core cities:

True, Virginia does things a bit differently though. A lot of its counties (not sure about Arlington) have a home-rule charter and incorporation of new places isn't allowed if the pop. density of the county is high enough. Kind of weird for me as someone from NJ to think of the county as being the "local" government.

not really because JC's metro doesn't include Newark. JC's SMALL metro includes Hudson county and the lower parts of Bergen County

The Woodlands, Texas

Irving (Las Colinas), Texas

Richardson, Texas

Addison, Texas

These are all suburbs with fairly impressive skylines.
