Have you heard of rhubarb?

I have a reason for asking. Please tell me for now, if you have.

I have it growing in my yard here in Idaho. There are many uses for it, I have learned.

Curious, what is your reason?

As you may know, Beretta, someone recently stated in another thread that southerners don't know what rhubarb is. That struck me as really odd, so I wanted to find out for myself.

Gotcha. I voted and moved the thread to General US since the South is more than Tennessee. Hope you get lots of responses!

Yes I've heard of it and I am native to the South. But I can't say that I've actually tried it or even know what it looks like. Now had you said rutabagas, I would have been all over it! lol

Born and raised in TN, and I've heard of rhubarb and have even seen it. Although I can't say I've ever used it for anything.

Nashville. My grandfather always grew rhubarb and my mom and grandmother both used the stalks to make really good (and tart) pies from it. The thing I remember besides really liking it was that while around the plants to stay away from the leaves as they were toxic. Rhubarb has been used through the ages for some medicinal uses, but not familiar with the specifics.

I think I've had rhubarb everywhere I've ever lived, except desert places & CA. On the other hand, these are the only places where I actually am sure that I grew and cooked with rhubarb:

Indiana - yep
Iowa - yep
Minnesota - yep

Don't remember if we had it in Arkansas and Oklahoma, though.

I just made some pie last week. Yummy!
