I'm looking for an area with increasing job opportunities in a beautiful location. Specifically an area with great outdoor recreation (hiking, biking, climbing, hunting, fishing). Preferably in a mountainous area.

I am a school teacher working on a MA in ELA Edu with certificates in both Reading Specialist and Guidance Counceling. My husband works as a jailer and would like to stay in law enforcement.

Any idea of a town that fits our needs? Specifically in the southern or southwestern areas? (I really love Tennissee, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, and the hill country of Texas, I'm unfamiliar with other, similar states).

Thanks!

Firstly, it's T-e-n-n-e-s-s-e-e .

I don't know how the job opportunities are, but almost everything you described makes it seem like Denver would be a good fit. It's a growing city in a beautiful setting with the outdoor things you like to do. I'm sure other will have other suggestions, but Denver just popped into my head immediately when I read your post.

Thaks so much for your help!

I'm actually an ELA teacher... *embarrassed face*

It doesn't help that I am on an iPhone...

Thanks for giving me somewhere to start my search!

Check out Salt Lake City or the Provo/Orem areas as well. Both have tons of outdoor recreation options available in the very nearby mountains. SLC/Provo >> Denver due to ease of access to the mountains.

I second the suggestion of Asheville, NC; I was just there and it is a marvelous small city. Also consider the nearby town of Hendersonville, NC; it's a gem of a town, and is largely undiscovered.

Morgantown is really underrated. A lot of the Wasatch Front in Utah is growing quickly. Asheville is also another underrated town.
