Hello everyone!! My husband is in the navy and he's getting out in 2013. Right now we're stationed in San Diego. Long story short, we have small children and want to move to a smaller, affordable, low-crime city in 2013. I love San Diego, but the crime rate in the "affordable" areas isn't that great, the city is over-crowded, and the schools are getting worse. I've seen many changes in the last few years we have been here.

Anyways, I know there's not such thing as a PERFECT city...but here are the things that I'm looking for:
-Preferrably west coast
-We love all seasons, but not too much snow (not into shoveling...we are Californians)
-Would be nice to be close to ocean OR lake OR river...some body of water!
-Good schools and low populations
-Low crime rate and things to do with kids
-We love greenery!
-Home median price $200k tops!

I have done ALOT of research online...but I just wanted to get advice from those that have done traveling. The problem is...I haven't done much traveling in my life!
Thanks for your help!!

I'm probably the worst person to ask about schools. I don't have kids and don't pay attention to inferior vs. superior school districts.

But I'd recommend checking out the following cities based on your other criteria:
Northern California:
Yuba City (not a lot to do for kids unless you're in to outdoor activities; hunting, fishing, etc)
Rocklin
Auburn
Redding (may be too big and conjested for you)

Oregon:
Eugene
Salem (can be pretty gray for my taste)

Idaho:
Boise (maybe not as green as you're seeking, but much greener than Phoenix where I live )

Colorado:
Colorado Springs (my sis just moved there to teach in their supposed best district. She says the zoo their is the best zoo she's ever seen)
