I could see myself possibly moving to Chicago someday. Not to mention the winters in the Baltimore/DC metro. I try not to bulk up. There is a jacket from a certain retailer that I'd like to buy.
I have gloves and a Balaclava. bought some long underwear as well.
1) throw on a hoodie
2) throw on a decent coat
3) throw on a hot
4) put on a nice scarf
5) put up hoodie and you're on your way
actually only takes about 30 seconds and its amazing how even when I know it's freezing ass cold and windy out while I wait for the train on the platform - I can't feel the cold one bit.
I usually just throw my hands in my pocket instead of gloves. Not sure if it's circulation or what, but they stay warmer in my pockets.

You can wear gloves with your hands in your pockets and the hands will be even warmer.

Mine just never are....something about having all my fingers separated from each other. The poor little guys can't create enough heat on their own. Strength in numbers....
Also there is a Japanese retailer named Uniqlo that just opened a store in Manhattan/NYC that sells "heattech" underwear items which help the body retain its own heat. I have some of their "heattech" knee-socks and they really work at keeping my toes warm (which regular socks don't.)
