So what in your perception are the 10 best academic schools but also by reputation. When I am talking about reputation, I am talking about how well known their brand is as well. For instance Standford is amazing academically and in reputation it's known across the nation. However, a school like Case Western is amazing academically but doesn't have a big reputation. Get what I mean?

Also this is based on your opinion, so don't start whipping out U.S. News Rankings and what not:

Illinois:
1. University of Chicago
2. Northwestern University
3. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
4. DePaul University
5. Loyola University
6. Illinois Institute of Technology
7. University of Illinois at Chicago
8. Illinois State University
9. Nothern Illinois University
10. Southern Illinois University

You'd seriously put UNC over Duke? Also, Wake Forest would not be 5th. It would be 2nd or 3rd. I'd dump Winston Salem State from the list and put in Davidson. I'm also not sure about Campbell.

Here's an interesting link about NC colleges' salary potentials.

Top 5 are:
Duke, Wake Forest, Davidson, NC State & UNC.

It's just his/her opinion. I disagree as well. I would out Duke at 1 and UNC at 2. I would put Wake Forest at #3, but besides Duke and UNC in all honesty I don't know too much about NC schools. However this is opinion based.

Like OP said there are many others that offer an excellent education, but just not too well-known nationally, like SUNY Binghamton, Cooper Union, Hamilton, Ithaca, St. Lawrence, Hunter College, Queens College, Brooklyn College, and U. of Rochester, to name a few.

I just conjured up what I had in memory at the time I saw the thread. Make your own list if you want. Geez.

UNC over Duke? Yep I did it. Academically I know Duke is the better school but I'm just a fan of Carolina.
