Houston beat out San Jose, Calif. — home to that plush garden of web and technology companies known as Silicon Valley — in technology job growth last year.
In fact, Houston led the nation with a 149 percent increase in technology job growth in 2011, according to CyberCoders, an Irvine, Calif.-based tech recruiter...........
1. 149% Houston
2. 100% San Jose
3. 64% Philadelphia
4. 27% Dallas
5. 25% San Francisco
6. 20% Chicago
7. 16% Boston
8. 16% Los Angeles
9. 16% Seattle
10. 15% Atlanta
*Great to see Houston doing well, seems like the economic juggernaut is continues to grow and diversify it's economy. I was also impressed with Philadelphia at #3. Seems like rumors of their demise is greatly exaggerated.

Thats cause Boston, San Fran, San Jose already have a much larger than Houston in the Tech sector, so if SF grows by 10,000 jobs and Houston grows by 3000 Houston gets a larger% Growth.

Saying that Houston "crushed" or "stomped" San Jose in tech growth is funny, when they only list the percent of increase, not the actual number of jobs. That's great that Houston is seeing an increase in tech sector jobs, but considering how much of San Jose's workforce is already in the tech industry, a 100 percent increase in jobs is pretty impressive...
Oh wait, the whole set of numbers used by the study are in question:
Well I can only go by the info I had at the time. Thanks for the follow up article which sheds additional light on the situation. And yes I'm a Houston booster. I'm proud of my city and their is nothing wrong with that so long as you can be objective.
Wow, there's like an endless supply of Texas boosters/boasters (same difference).
And the Californians on here have insufferable egos. Seriously, why is it such a problem that Houston had great job growth in tech this year? Is it impossible that for the year 2011 they grew a bit faster than San Jose?
I realized "stomped" is a strong word, but nowhere does the article say that Houston is now a better destination for tech than the usual suspects...I'm amazed how everyone's panties are getting in a wad over this. Fer crissakes!

That's what I'm thinking as well. If you read the article it fully acknowledges that Houston doesn't have more tech jobs than Silicon Valley.
