My best friend from college is trying to pick a city to move to:
Here are his traits:
1. Years ago, when we were in college, he was a very agressive and savy mover and shaker making long term contacts with some millionaires and such.
2. He and his wife are both African American.
3. He is an aspiring corporate executive type and his wife is a corporate lawyer.
4. He is a right wing fundamentalist christian in the soft sense. While he does not preach agressively, he has very conservative religous values and church is very very important to him.
In other words, what city is best for a very driven African American with high level corporate dreams that has a good Conservative Christian scene?
How is suggesting Detroit racist? There's millionaires, corporations, legal firms, and conservative Christians in the city and metro. You're insinuating that the whole city is a ghetto like Camden or Gary and doesn't share any of the qualities of the other cities mentioned which is a total stereotype in it of itself.

Agreed.....Detroit is rebuilding and will provide many opportunities for "driven" individuals to succeed over the next 10-15 years.

It's racist because Detroit isn't in good condition and is a cesspool. If I were black if and someone said "go move to Detroit, Camden, or Gary!" Without giving me a legit reason, I would be pissed. Now if a job offered a job in one of those places, that's another story. Also sometimes it's not fair on these forums. A couple of months I seen an "I'm asian and I need a place to move!" type thread and people suggested paradise and great cities like Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, and Hawaii while just a day later a black guy posted a similar thread and he got the responses of Detroit, Camden, and other crime ridden crapholes. S'all I'm trying to say.

There are still a good amount of decent/good neighborhoods in Detroit; its an entire major American city. I think you yourself have been brainwashed by racists but its not your fault since the media sheds zero light on this subject (i think b/c it threatens a lot of ppl).
On the other hand I do agree that over 95% of Camden and most of Gary are total losses.

Thanks
They will find people like themselves no matter where they go but I would say the places that fit their criteria best would be:
I would say check out: + Washington DC and it's suburbs:Good job market and tons of upwardly mobile blacks.
+ Atlanta suburbs: Same as above except job market isnt nearly as good; very christian city since in the south. Affordable real estate too.
+ Harlem in NYC: A fairly good amount of Black professionals are there and they will remain there even when the demographics continue to become more and more rich&caucasian; the ones that are getting pushed out are the poor minorities. And since it is gentrifying, the reality is that more and more "desirable" amenities will start to come to the area and you can live an amazing quality of life.
