I know Minneapolis gets water from the Mississippi with Saint Louis and New Orleans. Chicago from Lake Mich., NYC from Upstate, Los Angeles from near Sacramento. Denver form the meltoff. Where do major cities like Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, and San Diego get water? The water hypothesis is pretty interesting. I suppose I should retract my original statement. It may not be apparent now, but no one would have predicted Detroit in 1920.

I went and did some research. Phoenix gets its water from snowmelt in the moutains which supply the reservoirs. Dallas sits atop an aquifer and its has reservoirs nearby(The same goes for Houston). San Diego gets its water from Northern California and reservoirs as well as some use of the Colorado river. Atlanta also gets its water from reservoirs, but the Atlanta Metropolitan area is very large in land area and population for how small a watershed it uses and it is in a very bad drought. San Diego,Dallas, Houston, and Phoenix are not in a drought. Atlanta could turn into Detroit if the water crisis isn't solved.

This is actually a blasphamous statement as far as Baltimore is concerned. Our last mayor for two terms was Martin O"Malley who is now the governor of Maryland. At no time was there ever an accusation that he was "Crooked" and had crooked cronies. Also, I hate to bust your bubble there "Georgia" but the latest estimates by the census bureau actually show that Baltimore may gain in population in the next count with a small but steady increase. So, not all of the citizens are running to the hills. And yes, Baltimore has a serious crime issue which it has had for a very long time, even back to the 50s and anyone who studies statistics knows that those crimes occur in select neighborhoods almost 95 per cent of the time. So please don't make blatant statements about places that you are not familiar with. This is another assumption I read made by you that I feel I must respond to.

Baltimore Street, Liberty, Woodlawn, Towson, etc., familiar, heck I grew up 65miles from Baltimore and lived in the Columbia area at one time.
Martin O'Malley, granted he did take over for Schmokie, but even as governor is a huge tax and spend left winger that has not met a social program or tax that he did not like. If it was not for the ever growing governement base, Maryland would begin to look like much of the rust belt. Yes, the area is growing because our government is growing.
Maybe you need to remove your emotional pride and introduce logic into your thought pattern. Baltimore is a great town in my opinion, just as much as MoTown and even Atlanta, but until it gets around to logical leadership and cuts the feel good crap and cleans out the issues instead of making excuses then things will only trend one way.
I get such a kick when folks cannot debate issues but have to start with stating items such as you about me not being familiar with Baltimore.

Atlanta does have issues. Shirley Franklin is the best mayor I have seen in my lifetime in Atlanta(and I'm 21). No corruption from what I hear. There are other issues such as crime. Atlanta is violent. I do agree that Atlanta is like the Detroit of the South. I know what you mean, which is why I don't live inside of Atlanta. Atlanta could become the next Detroit if everyone takes their money and businesses with them. With that said, Atlanta isn't the only one. I checked the stats for New Orleans as far as murder rates go. New Orleans had more murders than Atlanta in 2006 and New Orleans had a large exodus(thx alot Katrina). 162 murders in 2006. Population in 2006:220,000-250,000. Atlanta has been getting closer and closer to 500,000 and there were 110 murders in 2006. I think that number might be higher this year. New Orleans has a higher murder rate this year(murder rate of 96 murders per 100,000).Whatever corruption is bad in Atlanta is worse for New Orleans as well as the rest of Louisiana. New Orleans may have already become the next Detroit.
Los Angeles and Miami with all the illegals are becoming Third World cities

Another nominee could be Cincinnati. After the most recent riots, the population dropped. While Cincinnati isn't Cleveland or Toledo, companies may find Cincinnati a bad place if anymore social upheaval takes place.

I just thought of soemthing. If Atlanta ever collapses due to a possible water shortage, Savannah could be the next up and coming city. It is near the Atlantic(well, it is a port and a desalination plant could be used to Savannah). When the people want water, Savannah could be the next best place.
No, I think Charleston would achieve this if any. They have a much larger population, economy and diversity of economy. However, I don't think either will ever be major citie.
Desalination this. Desalination that. We aren't as arid as, say, Dubai, so we don't necessarily need desalination plants. Sure, get the technology in place for when we do, but for now lets also look at conservation and retention policies that will maximize the water we have. Atlanta averages 50 in a year. Dubai averages 100mm.
