Phoenix to me feels a lot like Los Angeles, Tucson sort of had the San Fran/Portland vibe to me. There isn't anywhere East of I-25 that feels West Coast to me.
No. I don't know where this comparison comes from but it's wrong. Los Angeles is CEARLY a spread out, mountainous, low-rise, spanish speaking Chicago full of Asian people.
I still can't rap my head around Minneapolis feeling west coast.... Not seeing it. Phoenix and the metro area as well as Las Vegas feel more west coast/southern californiaish than Denver and definitely Austin. Austin does not feel west coast to me at least it just feels like well....Texas.
I agree, Austin mostly feels like Texas but a wide range of influences can be noticed here and there. The majority of those that perceive it as 'west coast' are former west-coasters. As a non-West coaster and a non-Texan, I see the California comparisons as overblown.

Depends on where. Minneapolis definitely has more in common with Portland and Seattle than Phoenix or Vegas do.
Austin, Las Vegas, and Phoenix all remind me of different parts of LA.
Minneapolis and Denver feel like they'd fit in well with Seattle and Portland in the Pacific Northwest.
Madison and Boulder feel like Berkeley.
Boston has a lot in common with San Francisco, though it in no way feels like a West Coast city.
To Texans, Austin feels like a west Coast city. Growing up, i always heard Austin is just like San Francisco and the Bay Area but in Central Texas.
To people from the west coast and Bay Area, austin still feels like Texas. Different than Houston or Dallas but still very Texas.
Having lived in both places, Austin is far more similar to Dallas and Houston than it is a West Coast City. Both positives and negatives to that.
I guess its a matter of perspective. My family still thinks I am tall, but it mostly because they are all very short...its all relative

Philly! The weather is just like California with temps around 70 degrees and sunny. People are even nicer in Philly than all cities in California. Philly is like the real California. They should put Philly in California, and California would be a trememdous state.
