Yes, I'm aware NYC has changed a lot for the better after Rudy Giuliani was elected mayor. I even heard that some white people were moving into Harlem. It's a very different city today than it was when I left it.

Harlem isn't even majority black anymore. The very core part still is, but Harlem as a whole is nowhere close to majority black.
NYC has changed big-time in the last 20 years (especially last 10), and particularly in Brooklyn and Bronx. If you knew the city back in the 70's, 80's and 90's, I think you would be very surprised to see the changes.

Nor should you apologize, as I was making no accusations, nor was I implying it was your fault. I was simply making the observation that I go about my business riding public transportation and walking on the streets with less interaction with homeless people than you seem to have.
I only rode a subway once, in NyC. 1977. a transit cop was walking thru the train asking people where they were going. about 1 in 3 was on the wrong subway (including me) He was doing his job SUPERBLY, giving very precise directions about what each person should do. Everyone THOUGHT that they were on the correct train (obviously) but apparently, transit cops are well aware of how many were confused. he also did me a HUGE personal favor, but no details, sorry.
I've never been to San Francisco before, but as far as your complaints about NYC, you DO realize that New York today is veeeeery different from the New York you grew up in and lived in during the 70s through 1992, right? If you left in 1992, you didn't even stick around the see Guiliani clean up NYC and get the gentrification ball rolling that's still going strong in NYC today. Hell, when you left back in 92, Midtown was rundown and Times Square was still filled with sex shops, perverts, and junkies. Now it's full of tourist traps, over priced restaurants and souvenir shops, regular movie theaters that don't show pornos, and family hangouts, and is FULL of NYPD to make sure all the tourists have a safe NY experience and don't go back home where ever they're from in the world and tell people that NYC is anything less than stellar.

Sorry. Didn't see this before I posted my initial response. Have you ever even thought about visiting one day and seeing how much NYC has changed since you left for yourself? You actually might like it!
Interesting how much of an inferiority complex NY'ers are demonstrating on the thread. Newsflash..... not everyone wants to live in your overrated city
Now SF on the other hand has nobody butthurt over somene not wanting to live there
That is how you know someone is secure with themselves..... when they just shrug their shoulders and move on with life
I would choose most cities over NYC as well..... particularly SF, LA, Portland, Boston, Houston, Austin, Seattle, Denver, SD etc.
Waiting for the haters... 3...2...1....
