I don't see these cities discussed very often since they live in DC's shadow, but I think they're very fun places and find them to be quite similar. Richmond is like a smaller version of Baltimore along a river instead of a bay which boasts a pretty sizable collection of rowhouses and despite its historical reputation as a southern city, it feels very mid-atlantic with transplants moving in. Compared to DC, both cities are a bargain to live in with walkable neighborhoods and amenities close by.

You've said that before about Richmond and it's not accurate.

I perceive both to be old, quasi-southern cities with a northern feel. Both have serious crime issues, and whether it's fair or not, that's the prevailing image I get from both places. I've visited Richmond but not Baltimore, and I know Baltimore has very interesting sites and places to eat and I'd want to visit if I had the chance. I know both cities are rich in history. I know both cities are probably underrated and yes, live in D.C's shadow.

I actually got to make my first visit to Richmond back in May and came away pretty impressed with the city. A nice mid-sized city that is pretty clean, has some nice restaurants and some solid historical sites to visit. I also enjoyed running from my hotel in downtown along the river and over to Belle Island.

Havana 57 (I think that's what it was called) was a cool place. Being able to enjoy a cigar at a bar is a bit of a novelty for me being from Boston where we have strong smoking bans in place.

Baltimore seems a bit more run-down than richmond, but other than that, I do see some similarities.

With most of the attention going to D.C. but B-more also gets over shadowed by Philly and Richmond often gets overlooked by the Hampton Roads. I love both cities, Baltimore is an authentic mid atlantic city while Richmond is more of a southern mid atlantic city
