The richer a city is, the cleaner it is. People tidy up their neighborhood because if they don't, their property value will go through the floor.

I volunteer my own hometown of Irvine, CA as one of the USA's cleanest cities.
I’ve never been to Switzerland, but most major US cities are no dirtier than major European cities. No one is going to visit Paris, London, Madrid or Amsterdam and come back talking about how clean they are. The same could be said for major Asian cities.

The only Canadian cities I have real experience with are Toronto and Montreal, and I don’t recall either of them being significantly cleaner than, say, DC or Chicago.

Which are the cleanest and most organized cities in the USa? (town, downtown)

If you've never been there, you don't know. I've heard Elvis is alive. I've heard Sandy Hook was a hoax. I've heard the moon is made of green cheese.

Phoenix is clean with a very good road system, IMO.

Actually the parts of London, Berlin, Brussels, and Zurich I have seen are impressively clean. Prague, Frankfurt, Cologne, not so much.

As for the US, the cleanest city I've ever seen is Salt Lake City. Houston's downtown strikes me as very clean. Same with DC. Philadelphia seemed dirty to me the last time I was there, as did Boston. Portsmouth Maine seemed sort of shabby, but Portland Oregon seemed clean. St. Louis and Indianapolis seemed very grungy to me, but Tulsa seemed considerably cleaner. Birmingham seemed dingy, but Nashville seemed clean.

I'd argue that Boston is very clean. Some on this site have even called it too sterile.

Chicago and Minneapolis are probably my picks, both for street level cleanliness and grid patterns.

I want to nominate Philly and Baltimore as going near the bottom of the list. Jacksonville was not great years ago, but I haven't been there in a long time.

I always thought that downtown Denver was relatively clean until I experienced downtown Salt Lake City which was nearly spotless, especially near the Temple.

Our experiences with Boston have been quite different then. I was there two years ago and was struck by just how dirty the downtown area was, especially around the "Chinatown" area. That being said, some areas were very clean. It seemed like hit or miss to me.

For small to mid-sized cities, I'd nominate Lexington, KY and Lincoln, NE.

Phoenix and Chicago get my vote. Very clean and organized, especially PHX's highway system.
