So I'm currently living in Pittsburgh, PA and I'm looking to make a move to a new city, but I need some advice/input on what might be a good option. Here's what my ideal city looks like:

Somewhere gay friendly
Somewhere hot/warm, with mild winters (not like North East winters)
Somewhere close to the ocean
Somewhere with professional, outgoing people (I'm in my late 20's and would like a similar crowd)
Somewhere with mountains, or great hiking opportunities close by

First time poster here; any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Check into Charlotte, NC or maybe Roswell, Georgia, although it may be a little far from the ocean, probably 4 or 5 hours.

What is your opinion on "hot"? Most of SoCal, like SD, is very unaffordable except in it's inland suburbs. Let's say, for an example, you choose LA. You might be only able to afford a place out in the Inland Empire. The IE is not much colder than Phoenix, for perspective, and for many that's way too hot (I believe the IE gets in the low 100s, which on average is about ten degrees less than Phoenix. Not much of a difference). And then if you include traffic, it could be a couple hours to the beach. I remember trying to get to Huntington Beach and I managed to drive a mile in thirty minutes. San Diego is no different, except maybe less job opportunity and slightly better traffic, but it's still pretty bad.

Just something to consider. I know it's a similar issue in the Bay Area, but the Bay may have it even worse. I honestly don't know. California (all three big cities would, I believe) would fit your requirements, but it's the price tag I'd worry about.

If rain/overcast is acceptable look at Portland and Seattle.

Denver and Atlanta are good cities to consider but neither is near the ocean.

Baltimore could work (I happen to know two gay men who have been there about four years and love it), Miami and Tampa, in addition to the Cali cities.

It can't get hot enough for me, I really like hot weather. It's the cold that gets me. I have been considering SD and SF in CA, but like you mentioned, the cost would be pretty steep. However, I'm not looking to buy any property right now, just rent- so I'd be happy finding a roommate and living with him/her for quite a while, though I'm sure that would still cost a decent bit in both those cities.

I would move to Seattle in a heartbeat, but I think continuous days of overcast skies would start to get to me, I love to be outside and soak up some sun!

Project- I have considered Denver, and it's still very much in the running; I'm just afraid it would get way too cold in the winter. BUT it might be worth it because it seems like I would fit in fairly well and could go hiking frequently.

I actually haven't considered Atlanta for some reason, I will check that out!

Except for the ocean part, Palm Springs, CA. Still affordable, too.

If you have the $$ and need the ocean, West Hollywood.

Sounds like Southern California is an option for you, but it's expensive here.

While the heat can be extreme in certain parts, Oregon may be an option for you. Describe your ideal weather range? Do you mean hot as in like 100+ and humid, or like 80-90?
