Perhaps in five hundred years when our coasts crawl inland because of global warming Atlanta will have themselves a beautiful beach. Then it will be a global player because all the major coastal cities around the globe will be lost under the sea. And they will have a nice ole' beach to brag about!! HEHE

Yeah, afraid Houston will be one of those under water towns . Sad if it comes to that. It would mean the cities the ancient Romans and Greeks built lasted over 1,000 years longer than most of the major cities we American's built. Oh, well. About a dozen generations to go before we see how that plays out.

One city thats not nearly as bad now but used to toot it's horn ad naseum in the 80's is LA.

It seemed to me in the 80's there was no end to the superior ravings of the LA based media. Every time you turned around some T.V. show, movie, music video, or whatever was going on about how LA's weather, women, economy, lifestyle, etc. was sooo much better than anything the East had to offer.

Remember "I Love LA", "The 84 Olympics", the Valley Girl obssession, Laker mania, LA Gear shoes. About a zillion movies and TV shows about some tough Easterner or hick midwesterner or southerner moving to LA and being overwhelmed by how beautiful the weather, women, and scenery was. And being dumbstruck by things like yoga, sushi, silicone women, fake tans and all that other stuff that hadn't become popular in the rest of the country yet.

Then all the bad news hit. Gang wars, King riots, major earthquakes, mudslides, fires. The city became more and more overcrowded and expensive and for the first time I heard lots of people saying they wanted to get out of LA.

Actually I think LA today is more interesting than the LA of the 80's. A city that was often heralded for all the wrong reasons.
