I always thought of blueberries for NJ. Hammonton, NJ is the blueberry capital of the world (so they say). I was surprised to learn that almost all of NJ's blueberry production is in Hammonton so it ends up being a tiny part of the state's agricultural product though.
Tomatoes and sweet corn are probably the most popular farmers market items from NJ. NJ peaches are popular in the mid Atlantic too.
Lots of folks giving Georgia good marks for peaches, but the blueberry crop is more valuable than the Peach. Georgia is number 5 in blueberry production in the USA.
"Although Georgia is known as the peach state, there is another fruit that is the most valuable fruit crop to the state: the blueberry. Blueberries generated an estimated $94 million for Georgia growers in 2012, meaning that the blueberry crop was more than three times as valuable as the nearly $30 million peach crop, reports Washington Post. "
I presume that Indiana, Wisconsin, and Missouri also grow a lot of corn.
Illinois also grows quite a bit of soybeans.
North Carolina: tobacco.
Colorado: marijuana? Serious reply, btw.
Washington: apples.
Georgia is known as the peach state, but South Carolina actually produces more peaches than Georgia.
