Did a tour, saw seven shows in four days, had a great time. In downtown Brandon,we went to an old timey five and ten store. I can't remember the name, but it is a fabulous store. Don't miss it..
I live about 3hours away. It depends on what's fun for you. The shows are okay depending on what you like. I enjoyed the Dixie Stampede for my kids. It's owned by Dolly Parton. You are served a meal while watching the show that's full of horses while the south battles the north. You can visit the horses prior to the show. The other shows are okay, I'm not a big country music fan so the shows don't hold much value to me. Most people LOVE the shows and they make Branson what it is. I've never been to any of the comedy shows. I'm sure they would be enjoyable.
2 large malls, an IMAX.
The Branson landing is nice with lots of shops and restaurants. Old town is quaint, not to my liking but they have a 5&dime store that's neat. Don't miss Silver Dollar city. I like the fall festival. Lots of great food, crafts and it's beautifully decorated for fall and the weather is normally nice, not to hot, not to cold. I take the kids and get some great back drops for kids pictures. The Ozarks are beautiful in the summer and fall months. Winter not so much IMO.
It's a fairly inexpensive trip. Very laid back and safe area for families to enjoy. The water sports are awesome in the summer as well. Lots of places to rent boats, jet ski's.
I've stayed in many different hotels there. There is a Hilton within walking distance to the landing. I'll never stay anywhere else when I go back. Clean and great location, nice rooms.
It's an ugly, ugly town in the middle of some very beautiful scenery.
Silver Dollar City is great, Branson Landing is pretty good, Dixie Stampede is probably good (I haven't been), and almost everything else is honestly horrible. It's like... Vegas for old white Christians...
I went there in the mid to late 80's when I was about maybe 34 or 35 years old. What I remember the most about Branson was, at the shows I went to, with the exception of the ushers, I think I was the youngest one in the auditoriums. Lots of retirees there. I never seen so many retirees gathered in one place at the same time. They were bringing them in by the bus loads from all over the South and Midwest.
Branson reminds me of Laughlin, NV without the casinos.
I had a good time but I have no desire to go back. except maybe just to see how the area has grown. When I was there, the roads were one lane each way and there were so many vehicles on it. It was the most congested small town I have ever been to. Even more congested than the town of Laughlin, Nevada, which never really seemed congested to me, considering all the tourists that were there. Branson was cramped and I felt enclosed.
I just wonder now, nearly 30 years later, if they ever got that traffic situation improved.

My grandparents used to go there back in the 80's & 90's when they traveled in their motorhome. Seems like they always preferred Pigeon Forge over Branson though.
