Midwest is a useless term. How can an area stretch from NYC to Denver, and be even remotely coherent as a region?
I much prefer to talk about Plains Sttaes and Lake or Rust Belt State.
Neither are within the "midwest".. Perhaps you were way over exaggerating?
Anyway, without hesitation, I voted no. There is already a mideast on the other side of the world. Also, as it has been said before, it was more a historical term when our country pretty much stopped at roughly the Mississippi River or not much further west.
Midwest is a historical term, dating back to when it really was in the middle, and out west, of all development. I said no, because I wouldn't want to change the historical names of my town, even though west is south, up is west, down is east, east is north...
The "old Northwest" became the Midwest as the nation expanded west. Its been called the Midwest for over 100 years, expecting it to change would be crazy. Leave it alone.
Some of these comments are meant to be funny, some are rude, and some make sense. I don't think this is something we need to ponder... I haven't heard the US Government is looking for suggestions...?
