Not simply a Sunbelt city. I lived in Chicago and they were just as much a problem there as Houston to me. Difference was, I dealt more with spiders in Chicago vs. Roaches in Houston.
Basically, anywhere where there is humidity, you will find pests.
Yes these slideshows can be awful. There are too many despicable ads that keep downloading and eat up all the memory on your computer. Your computer then slows down or even locks up and it stops flipping over onto the next page. That being said I am very surprised that it was mostly newer , less dense spread out Sun Belt cities that made the list. One would think it would be the older more densely packed cities in the Mid West and Northeast would have more of a rodent issue and bug problem.

The Midwest regularly gets sub zero temps in the winter and that really helps reduce things like roaches. The northeast is not quite as cold but still the weather up there helps them a lot.
The worst pests I've had to deal with are cottontail rabbits (they eat your flowers) and small insects. For whatever reason, the insects get bigger the farther out into rural areas you go. Either way, it all feels pretty tame compared to other parts of the country I've been to.
