Here is a cool map that I've just seen that compares each state to a foreign country in terms of their GDP. Some of the funnier ones include Alabama-Iran, Wyoming-Uzbekistan, and Minnesota-Norway (go figure!).

That's cool. It's using 2000 economic numbers when our economy was booming. I wonder what countries would compare to what states now in 2008?

Interesting map, although I spot checked the numbers for the states vs the countries for 2006, and almost all the countries listed have much higher GDPs than the state they represent. For instance Russia has over twice as high a GDP compared to New Jersey, etc. Generally though, the countries listed have a roughly 20% higher GDP than the state they're in.

I think someone said this is from 2000, although the US has had fairly decent growth since then, especially compared to other western countries.
