In case you're wondering, I am looking for a place to relocate, and there is something about bridges, whether it be the old historic type, or the new magnificent type, that really makes me feel inspired. In my town of Denver, we have nothing for bridges. I must ask about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. In the image provided, it looks as if the bridge goes out into the water, and then disappears into the water. What's that all about? Is that an illusion? Thanks.
^ that's no illusion! its called the Chesapeake bay bridge tunnel because its partly a bridge and partly a tunnel! I must admit its pretty cool, but not my fav on the Chesapeake . Its really cool though! its at the very bottom of the bay near Newport news or Norfolk.

One of the bridges in my city is used as a symbol for the area and is definitly a local landmark. It's beautiful, in my opinion! The other bridges are either plain or ugly.

Sorry. I wasn't trying to be offensive towards anyone. I actually have some family members who used that bridge everyday. My uncle works downtown and I'll be moving to St. Paul at the end of the summer.

I did enjoy walking that bridge when I lived in Chattanooga.
Very wise use for an old wooden bridge when it can no longer carry vehicle traffic. SAVE HISTORY !
Now... I live in Omaha. There is a pedestrian bridge under construction across the Missouri river between Omaha and Council Bluffs. Civic boosters here made sure it would be designed to take the 'longest' title from Chattanooga. Moot point IMHO. Your Walnut St. bridge is showing how to save a historic bridge vs. demolishing it. Their bridge is new construction, much $$$.
Does the Market St/Chief John Ross bridge look the same since it was rebuilt?
I favor those old drawbridges/ swing bridges even if it was rarely opened, like that bridge.
The bridge does look just about like it did before. There are some minor changes but it still retains it's old beauty. I actually got to see it "drawn" once. Amazing I didn't know about the Omaha bridge. I agree with you, it's silly to spend that kinda money as I am sure your city, like ours needs it for other things.

For only one day every year pedestrians are allowed on this magnificent bridge and it is temporarily closed to vehicle traffic.
It used to be a fun trip with my kids every Labor day to walk that bridge.
About 5 miles.
Funny how many are intimidated by the lanes with metal grates.
And while we 'strolled' to enjoy that magnificent and rare view, we were practically run over by joggers and foot-races running across- Odd, one can run a 5 mile race almost anywhere. They miss a great view!
