I(currently a basic warehouse worker) have some job leads that apparently pay around $52-60K for hands-on type entry level work, where my "miscellaneous" degree would help me get in(but not required). In the NW corner of AL; very cheap rent and COL, but the weather seems fairly dangerous in that state... So, are there any similar, safer places in the US where pay is this high for entry work, and COL is low? I'm not sure what to think, as I haven't been to the state or seen any of these jobs in-person yet.

Toyota/Mazda are putting a ginormous plant near Huntsville. There are plenty of manufacturing jobs in the state around Huntsville and Birmingham. Plus, if you want to gain skills, there is a strong community college system designed to train and feed workers into local employers. Both are great towns with affordable costs of living.
Weather isn't all that dangerous. Probably should visit and see if they pass the smell test.

the Upstate of SC is MUCH less prone to tornadic activity compared to "Dixie Alley" (I'm a native of Birmingham) - looked what happened to Jacksonville, AL a few weeks ago!

As well as Michelin's Tire Plant in Spartanburg which is the second largest plant in the area that employs over 4000 people. Here's a list with other large plants like GE, Bosch. Lockheed Martin and Honeywell. BMW employs over 23,000 at it's Spartanburg facility.
Mobile has one of if not the strongest manufacturing base in the state and growing. Mobile has tons of great neighborhoods and suburbs. You have the option to live in a nice urban historical district or traditional.Close proximity to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country ,there is of course a lot of water recreation. The vibe and culture of Mobile is completely different from the rest of the state .The culture and vibe is southern for sure but it's Gulf Coast .Alabama has a training system that's called AIDT and they have a very strong presence in Mobile.From what I was told the Mobile AIDT is the largest and most advanced training facility for manufacturing in Alabama. Aerospace manufacturing is growing so rapidly in Mobile that the state built a complete separate AIDT Airbus aerospace training facility separate from the current AIDT training facility.Mobile holds up well for it's city and metro size.

Not trying to one-up here, but Mercedes, Toyota/Mazda, Honda, and Hyundai here. Plus the zillion supporting suppliers.
Alabama in terms of employment, output and diversification holds a significant edge on South Carolina. Plus we've had several key recruitment wins over the past year.
