Thinking Mississippi and Ohio Rivers intersecting at the metropolis that is not Cairo, Illinois. Also Old Saybrook, CT where the CT River meets L.I. Sound. Point Lookout, Maryland where the Chesapeake and Potomac meet. Astoria, Oregon where the Columbia River meets the Pacific. Others?

The Mississippi River begins from Lake Itasca in far northern Minnesota in a very idyllic rural and forested area. No cities just towns.

The Altamaha River in south Georgia.

"It is reportedly the third-largest contributor of fresh water to the Atlantic Ocean from North America."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altamaha_River

And yet, there are no communities of significance upon its course.

The "Four Corners" where AZ, UT, NM, and CO meet. No other place in the US like it. No towns or cities within miles.

The Cumberland Gap was the primary route west south of the Mohawk/Hudson Gap but there is no big city there. (It's importance as a migration route is why KY/TN were the first western states established)

The Southern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii is the southernmost point in the US. It's a windswept lava rock desert landscape, albeit beautiful in its own way, though the more scenic parts of the island (and touristy) are mostly on the northern half. It gets green quickly to the next town up the coast on the way to the black sand beaches with a Portuguese Bakery in the tiny town of Naalehu.

Most people tend think of Key West first when thinking of the most southern point geographically due to Hawaii's isolation from the mainland.
