You are absolutely right. The only current outer borough NYC grew into was the Bronx because the narrow Harlem River was no barrier. What you noted ould be 100% true for Queens. But I don’t know if that applies to Brooklyn whivh, I believe was the nation’s third largest city when Greater New York was created. And with DT Bkyn across the river from lower Manhattan, the immediate area was highly dense
