This is probably not an easy question to answer since there are many variables and factors that guide mental health (i.e.: state funding/gov't, insurance, policy, laws, location: rural vs city, etc) but I’m interested to know which state, area of the country has good quality mental health care. A good friend of mine is interested in moving but isn’t sure where he’d like to move to. We had a good conversation about this the other day and I thought I would post here to see what opinions other people had. We both agree that a move should really be based on where the job is. Not all parts of the US have good quality mental health care, let alone access to it. We also agreed that parts of the Northeast have a pretty solid footing in mental health care, specifically Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York.

Please feel free to share your opinions, thoughts, experiences, and whatever else you’d like in a positive, meaningful way.

Thank you.

Tell us more about why mental health care in particular is important to your friend. Is it for your friend, for a family member, what? What is the situation?

He wants to relocate to an area of the country where there is a solid ground in mental health. He's a psychologist and may want to open a private practice.
